From Keller Town Center, our Southlake clinic is about 7.4 miles away, roughly 16 minutes by car. Several of our team members live in Keller, so we know the drive well. The first question most Keller patients ask us is which medication they should be on. Here's how we think about it.
What the big trials showed
In STEP 1, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2021, people on semaglutide lost about 15% of their body weight on average at 68 weeks. In SURMOUNT-1, published in 2022, people on the highest dose of tirzepatide lost about 21% at 72 weeks. Both were brand-name medications at the highest studied doses, with diet and activity support.
Why we recommend tirzepatide for most patients
Semaglutide acts on one hormone receptor (GLP-1). Tirzepatide acts on two (GLP-1 and GIP). It's produced more weight loss in head-to-head research, and that's why it's our default recommendation.
When semaglutide still makes sense
Price is the big one. In Project 180, semaglutide is $100 a month less. Some people also need a more modest result, have done well on semaglutide before, or simply prefer to start there. Your provider will talk it through with you at your Day 1 visit, and you can switch later if your progress stalls.
What Project 180 includes
- A monthly in-person visit with Dr. Abdullah or Rachael Bowen, FNP-C
- A monthly body composition scan (body fat, muscle, visceral fat)
- Compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide, with the dose adjusted as you go
- A full-body red light session and a Lipo-B shot every month
- Side-effect support, including anti-nausea medication when needed
- In-house labs at the start and every 6 months
- Olina Premium, our GLP-1 app, plus a Sustain Plan after day 180
It's $249 a month with compounded semaglutide or $349 a month with compounded tirzepatide for our first 50 founding members, then $299 and $399. Day 1 is free.
Every plan is designed by Dr. Farhan Abdullah, DO, board-certified in internal medicine, and managed month to month with Rachael Bowen, FNP-C.
